This year’s Grammys was a night of firsts. In case you missed the televised ceremony, there were many magical moments celebrating the best entertainers in the industry. The show opened with Camila Cabello performing her ultra-catchy hit, Havana, on stage. The performance set the tone for the rest of the show as it was a night dominated by females in entertainment. Ms. Cabello became the first Latina to open the Grammys in the Recording Academy’s history. A welcomed shift after last year’s controversy.
Another major moment happened when Grammy host Alicia Keys welcomed a clan of powerful female icons to the stage. Surprise guest Michelle Obama drew a standing ovation from the crowd as she shared a few wise words surrounded by Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Jada Pinket Smith and Alicia Keys.
This year, five LAFS alumni worked on Grammy-nominated projects. A special congratulations to our film alumna Hannah Lux Davis whose directing career has blossomed since graduation. Hannah’s distinct style and ambition have made her a household name in the music video/entertainment world.

If the massive success of working with Ariana Grande wasn’t enough, Hannah also directed the colorful, ’60s-inspired High Horse video for Album of the Year winner, Kacey Musgraves. Musgraves received four trophies overall, tied with Childish Gambino for the most of any artist that night.

Congratulations to all of the alumni who worked on Grammy-nominated projects!
